  • Educational Sessions on the topics of data analytics and diversity & inclusion (3 NASBA CPE), 1:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • Evening Reception w/ IMA’s Global Board of Directors, 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Title: “Diversity & Inclusion: The Fundamentals”

Overview:  In this session, participants will learn the fundamentals about diversity, inclusion and how they work together to drive innovation, value and growth in organizations. The session will include exercises and personal reflection along with discussion of key issues such as unconscious bias and micro-impressions.  Best practices around diversity and inclusion will also be shared.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the differences between diversity and inclusion and what they each mean.
  2. Learn about the value diversity and inclusion bring to organizations.
  3. Identify unconscious bias and how to minimize it.
  4. Learn about diversity and inclusion best practices that participants can bring back to their organizations

Title: "Big Data and Analytics: Redefining Our Profession"

Speaker: Fatema ElZahraa El Wakeel

Overview: With the fourth industrial revolution as a backdrop, this session highlights the link between strategy, finance, and Big Data analytics. Explore Big Data from a business perspective, and learn what to consider when implementing Big Data analytics. Discover the skills now needed in finance to be a strategic business partner in your organization. This session tackles Big Data and analytics from scratch, using business cases to support your understanding. No expected knowledge of the topic is required.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe what Big Data is, its enablers, and implementation considerations.
  2. Recognize how Big Data and analytics are used across different industries and functions.
  3. Identify how this is redefining finance and the skills needed now

Speaker Bio's

Brad Monterio is managing director of Colcomgroup, Inc., where he advises organizations about strategy around the intersection of technology, business, and accounting/finance. A former investment banker, Monterio began his career in marketing and product development positions at Chase Manhattan Bank. 

An active IMA volunteer, Monterio has served on the Planning and Development and the Nominating Committees. He is currently a member of the Governance Committee, chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee, and vice chair of the Technology Solutions & Practices (TS&P) Committee. He previously served on the IMA Global Board from 2010 to 2016. 

Monterio regularly speaks, writes, and blogs about technology, corporate disclosure, data governance, integrated reporting, and other topics. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College in 1988.

Nicole Gonzalez-Cumberbatch is a dedicated and driven senior accounting professional with over 15 years of experience across both the private and public sectors. She is currently an Accounting Coordinator for the Intercollegiate Athletics Department of Florida Atlantic University. Prior to FAU, she was the Vice President of Finance at Site Impact where she was a key member of the executive team. Nicole has a BA in Managerial Accounting from Florida Atlantic University. She has written three articles for the IMA's Strategic Finance publication, has served on the D&I Committee since 2016 and is on the board of the South Florida Chapter. Professionally, Nicole enjoys FP&A, problem solving, auditing, and reconciliation. She is also a leadership and mentorship advocate. Personally, Nicole enjoys reading, cooking, traveling with her husband and being a mom to her one-year-old son.  

Fatema ElZahraa El Wakeel has more than 10 years of experience in strategy development, financial planning, and Big Data and analytics. She led change management and organization restructuring projects and worked in both multinational and public sectors across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Her industry background includes consulting, automotive, IT, and others. Fatema is a CMA, holds an MBA with a focus on strategy and Big Data research from the University of Manchester in the U.K. and a BS in accounting from Alexandria University in Egypt. Her IMA volunteering activities include being the founding president of IMA’s U.K. Chapter, founder and past president of IMA’s Cairo Chapter, and participating in several IMA committees.
